The Dogs Trust, Canterbury

Description of Works: New Intake and Booked Dogs Building, including offices and External Exercise Areas

As part of the Dogs Trust modernisation programme, we were asked to further develop the site with the construction of the New Intake and Booked centre, this followed our construction of the Rehoming Centre that sits further down the site in 2008.

The new building was necessary to replace a number of old buildings that had been extended over the years but unfortunately were now not working efficiently and effectively for them.

The new building now comprises a total of 26 new runs and sleeps (kennels) for the Dogs. Two kennels are dedicated for Training Behaviour Assessment (TBA). Four kennels are for Long term training. Ten kennels provide the Intake facility where the Dogs initially come into the centre to be re-homed. The intake facility includes the process of an initial assessment, vaccination etc. in readiness to go into the Re-homing building. The remaining ten kennels (Booked Dogs) are provided for Dogs who are getting ready to leave the centre to go to their new homes.

In addition to the kennel facilities the new building provides a fully fitted out Vet suite including Vet preparation, Theatre and recovery. Other ancillary rooms within the building contain, laundry, Food and general storage, food preparation kitchens, a dedicated Bath and groom room, staff changing & shower areas, and staff rooms. The first floor contains offices and staff accommodation.

Externally paths provide walkways for Astroturf dog exercise areas and access to 3 separately fenced woodland exercise areas.
