Castilion School, London

Project Value:- £1m

Castilion Primary School is a project that we worked on Thamesmead, South East London, attributable to our continued good relationship with Bexley Council.

The works involved the construction of a new two storey extension, providing five new classrooms, 2 additional learning areas, toilets, reception area and a new disabled lift.  External works consist of the extension of the existing school playground to create additional hard play areas and also the construction of a new Multi Use Games Area with synthetic surfacing, court markings and rebound fencing all constructed to Sports England standards.

During the summer holiday period, we were asked to re-assess our programme to complete the refurbishment of the existing school toilets prior to the children returning.  We were flexible enough to accommodate this and after considerable hard work the toilets were handed back to the school on time, much to the delight of the staff.

Castilion has proven to be one of our more challenging projects due to the discovery of small quantities of asbestos buried in the existing school grounds.  This has meant us working closely with the local Environmental Department to ensure that the appropriate measures have been undertaken for the safe excavation and disposal of contaminated material.
