This project comprised an extension to the existing
church to provide additional seating by creating another
aisle. This involved removing tomb stones and other
objects which were then carefully and successfully relocated.
The construction of the new extension blends in with
the existing church and included brick buttresses and
flint walling with a prescribed mortar.
Internal works were carried out with block work and
dental coursing around the gothic arches. Externally
gothic arches were constructed in Bath stone which received
leaded lights and in one particular instance a stained
glass section. The adjoining walls at the break through
points were carefully removed by the insertion of a
shoring system to support the main structure of the
roof. Gothic arches were carefully installed on brick
supporting pillars which were filled with an absorbent
sound material to provide a solid structure effect.
Visitors to the Church have complimented our tradesmen
on the way that this stonework blends in and within
a matter of years it will not be noticeable that an
extension has been constructed.
The work was carried out under the guidance of Dudley
Marsh represented by Michael Stace and the engineering
works were designed by Evans and Langford.
